This 3-hour tour takes us to the centre of the town of Medieval St Peter Port, which has a fascinating history and a busy port since Roman times. It is a picturesque town with cobbled streets and narrow alleys.
The castle dates from the 13th Century and started as a fortification against the French after the island decided to side with England after the loss of Normandy. It has been used as a garrison, arsenal and prison.
The castle was originally built on an island and is now reachable by a raised walkway built in the 19th Century. Built on the site of Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements, the castle has been built, partially destroyed and rebuilt many times with Medieval, Tudor and World War 2 remains.
See and hear the key highlights of the castle with me. Then, spend some time at your own pace in the ‘Story of Castle Cornet’ exhibition, museums or exploring the castle and perhaps some of their four small gardens within the castle walls.
